Scarlett Johansson & Ryan Reynolds: Engaged!

Cinco de Mayo won't be the only reason guys and girls will be saddling up to the bar tonight. A good number of them will surely be drowning their sorrows in cheap tequila and triple sec for a different reason altogether. When news of the Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynold's engagement broke, sighs were heard around the globe as fans, stalkers and hormonal teens alike, kissed their dreams of hooking up with either of these stars goodbye. After dating for more than a year, Scarlett Johansson is engaged to her boyfriend Ryan Reynolds, celebrity news sources have confirmed.

“They’re both thrilled,” Johansson’s rep, Marcel Pariseau, said.

The hunky Ryan Reynolds, 31, is currently filming The Proposal (how appropriate) in and around Boston with Sandra Bullock.

He recently popped the question to Scarlett Johansson, 23.

There’s no wedding date yet, but Johansson is expected to debut her engagement ring at Monday night’s Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala in New York.

Sources say Johansson is eager to “show off her rock” tonight.

Chances are she may be showing off her rack, as well. Sorry. But you have to admit, Ryan Reynolds did pretty well for himself landing Scarlett!

Johansson, a Barack Obama supporter whose debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, is due out May 20, will next be seen in Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona and the Drew Barrymore-produced He’s Just Not That Into You.

Ryan Reynolds, who was once engaged to weird singer Alanis Morissette, is in some of his own upcoming projects including Fireflies in the Garden with Julia Roberts and Hayden Panettiere, as well as X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Mutual pal and Wolverine costar Hugh Jackman revealed he is protective of Scarlett Johansson (they bonded working on 2006’s Scoop and The Prestige) but gave Ryan Reynolds his blessing to propose to her, calling the handsome actor “one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met … He’s phenomenal.”
