Isn't it ironic?

Singer Alanis Morissette says she's been through emotional hell for the last few years, and the punchline to that was a final break-up with bland actor Ryan Reynolds in 2007.

On the plus side, all the drama fueled a new album, Flavors of Entanglement; her first new work since her last album, So-Called Chaos hit in 2004. Misery rocks!

Says Alanis, 33, of the new album: "I took a break over the past two and half years. I was tending to my personal life. (I hit) rock bottom. Everything from pounding pillows to sharing with intimate friends (helped me through it). The (new) record chronicles the rock bottom finally being hit."

See, so, the thing to do if you're stuck for fresh material is have a miserable love life, break your engagement, spend a few months plucking flies out of your Chardonnay, then find out your dull ex just got engaged to Hollywood starlet Scarlett Johansson. If that doesn't bring the creative juices back to full boil, well, we just can't help you with that.

But bet she's mad though, eh? She's all "are you thinking of me when you f*ck her?"
