It's Halloween in NYC

The theme of the annual Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was "Superheroes," so all the celebs and fashionistes were supposed to show up as superheroes. Or something like that.

But most of the stars sashaying up the red carpet were just having none of that, and just went for straightforward glamor. Except fashion designer Gareth Pugh, who came dressed as fash icon Karl "He who has his own Coke butler" Lagerfeld, saying, well, "I came as my superhero."

(Karl, in the meantime, came as his superhero -- natch, himself.)

Okay, Gareth had a little bit of company in this whole grown-people-in-costumes thing.
