“I don’t really care what people say, but I know it’s affected him and stressed him out," Archuleta, 17, says in the newest issue of TV Guide.
Jeff, who told Usmagazine.com that he's "no stage dad," enraged show producers when he reportedly insisted his 17-year-old son switch up the lyrics of "Stand by Me" to include a verse from Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls," despite warnings not to do so.
As a result, Idol had to pay increased royalties, according to TMZ.com.
“I’ve heard some weird things that people have been saying, and it’s kind of a bummer,” Archuleta added. “I think I, of all people, would know what’s going on, and he’s been great.
"He’s given me a lot of good advice and helped me from making any dumb decisions," Archuleta said. "He understands more than anyone what I want in music, and I’ve felt really blessed to have someone like that.”
As for reports that Jeff withheld water from his son during a recording session?
"That’s kind of stupid," he insists. "I’m 17! I think I’d be able to stand up for myself if he were to take my water away.”
Archuleta is one of the three remaining contestants. He performs along side Syesha Mercado and David Cook on Tuesday night's show.
