Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell Are Frenemies With Benefits

It's been an eventful week on American Idol. First up on this week's scoop of "Idol," three contestants fumbled the words to signature Diana Ross hits. Then Simon Cowell, A.I's resident daily dose of British crankiness, coxed Ryan Seacrest "out of the closet." And Lady Di gave a lyrically impaired performance of her very own, although her weave never missed a beat.

But there's one "idyllic" area that's harboring no biting drama. At least that's the story according to loopy judge Paula Abdul.

Paula says her public displays of rage at biting Brit Cowell are mere rating boosters. As if we'd need another mid-season rating booster with Antonella Barba's sexed up photos, and Sanjaya Malakar and his brilliantly conditioned set of spiral curls still squeaking through the finals.

"We have cultivated a fun relationship .... He's actually become a really good friend," Paula says. That's the Rum and Coke talking, guys.

"We have fun playing up the chemistry, but there's also times when I would cross the other side of the street so I wouldn't have to look at him." Spoken like a true baby sister.

We think a Abdul-Cowell Love Connection could be great material for a VH1 reality show. Viewers could even get in on the action by placing online bets on how long it would take Simon to walk in on Paula giving Ryan Seacrest tips on properly applying his mascara.
