Following the California Supreme Court's monumental ruling that same sex couples have the "right to marry," DeGeneres announced she planned to wed her longtime girlfriend on a taping of her show.
"It's something that we've wanted to do and we want it to be legal and we are very, very excited," DeGeneres said.De Rossi, 35, was in the studio — and the crowd went wild applauding before giving the pair a standing ovation.
DeGeneres, 50, has been dating De Rossi since December 2004.
The taped episode of Ellen making the announcement is said to air today, Friday.
Ellen has already created a registry at Crate&Barrel and lists the wedding date as July 7, 2008.
