Tatum O'Neal was arrested in New York City yesterday for buying crack cocaine. What makes this arrest especially sad is that O'Neal penned her autobiography in 2004 in which she detailed her long road to recovery from drug addiction.
O'Neal is the daughter of actor Ryan O'Neal, the ex-wife of tennis star John McEnroe, and won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar at the age of 10 for her role in Paper Moon. Recently, O'Neal had a starring role in the FX series Rescue Me and guest-starred as a judgmental helicopter mom in the memorable Sex and the City episode, "A Woman's Right to Shoes."
I really feel for her. O'Neal has had a rough time of things, what with her dad not being the most stellar parent and her marital difficulties with McEnroe that have resulted in a horrendous custody battle for their children. I can only imagine what led her to throw away years of sobriety for a hit. But then again, has Whitney Houston taught us nothing? "I make too much money to use crack. Crack is wack."
Ahem, Lohan and other young cokeheads. Don't go down this path!
