Johnny Depp’s New Tattoo: What the hell was he thinking??

Johnny Depp was the big winner of the 2008 MTV Movies Awards, accepting awards for Best Comedic Performance and Best Villain. Taking a break from “Public Enemies”, Johnny sets the crowd on fire and reveals a brand new tattoo.
Yeah, what the hell was Johnny Depp thinking doing a tattoo that doesn’t read “C7Girl Forever” on his arm?? The beautiful tattoo has a deeper meaning… “Silence, Exile, Cunning.”
It’s a quote from the James Joyce’s book “A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man“. At five pages of the end of the book, we can find this quote, from the main character Stephen:
“I will tell you what I will do and what I will not do. I will not serve that in which I no longer believe, whether it call itself my home, my fatherland, or my church: and I will try to express myself in some mode of life or art as freely as I can and as wholly as I can, using for my defense the only arms I allow myself to use - silence, exile, and cunning.”

  • It sounds like this quote strikes a deep cord within his soul. A code of honor for him to live by. Words to contemplate on when he needs to.

    My next tattoo will be a Cross with my Lord's face in it, that's what I contemplate on everyday, and who my soul will see when I die. Who I will be with for all eternity.

  • Oh, how deep is he... its like a surrealist branch of vanity Johnny conforms to... and really what Jack says 'the only rules that really matter are these; what a man can do and what a man cant do'... this idea of life may be disasterous for him in the future, but he's 'survived' this far, so...

    Those awards were for Sweeney Todd weren't they?! (i cant see it written anywhere so i'm a bit unsure!!) ... well, shambolic direction by tim burton, but a fantastic film in general, so excellent!!!!!!! (am ashamed and embarassed if they weren't sweeney todd and i've made div of myself!!)
