American Idol contestant Chris Sligh, 28, is feeling the heat from Christian fans who worry that the curly-haired rocker is straying too far from his religious roots. The son of missionaries, Sligh remained on the show last week despite his performance of Diana Ross’ Endless Love, that Simon Cowell later criticized as "uninspiring." The only inspiration Sligh needs comes from Jesus, according to the people who grew up with Sligh in Greenville, South Carolina – some of whom are disappointed that he stopped singing strictly Christian music. Jonathan Pait, a spokesman for Sligh's old stomping grounds, Bob Jones University, told the Associated Press, "We really are somewhat disappointed with the direction he has gone musically."
