BEN STILLER AND REESE WITHERSPOON SET FOR CAMERON CROWE COMEDY

Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon are to star in a new comedy from Cameron Crowe, it has been confirmed.

Though no plot details for the as-yet-untitled film have been released, Variety reports that Stiller and Witherspoon have signed up to act in the Almost Famous director’s first film in three years.

As with his work on Vanilla Sky and Elizabethtown, Crowe is to write, produce and direct the film, which is expected to begin shooting in January.

With Columbia Pictures having outbid a reported four other studios for rights to the film, the deal returns Crowe to the production house for the first time since 2000’s Oscar-winning Almost Famous.

He also produced his biggest box office hit, 1996’s Jerry Maguire, with Columbia and worked with studio chief Amy Pascal almost 20 years ago on Say Anything.

Stiller, who will next hit UK screens alongside Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr in period comedy Tropic Thunder, is currently filming Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian - a sequel to his 2006 family hit.

Witherspoon, meanwhile, recently completed production on Four Christmases, during the filming of which she is rumoured to have clashed with co-star Vince Vaughan.
