The 2008 Tony Awards were held last night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Host Whoopi Goldberg who has appeared in such shows as A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom found herself in a number of hit Broadway renditions throughout the awards ceremony. Performances included one’s from the revivals of both Gypsy and South Pacific, as well as a touching one by the original cast of Rent, which will close in September, extended from June. Awards were given to In The Heights for best musical as well as best original score, best choreography, and best orchestrations. Other big winners included August: Osage County for best play, leading actress, featured actress, direction, and scenic design, as well as South Pacific raking in 7 awards, and Gypsy with 3.
