One night after the Final Four raided the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for inspiration, America told JASON CASTRO to keep on rockin' in the free world -- just not on this season's remaining "Idol" shows!
The dreadlocked dudester nonetheless seemed unfazed on Wednesday evening's results show when he learned he wouldn't be making the Final Three -- coveted seats now occupied by DAVID COOK, SYESHA MERCADO and DAVID ARCHULETA. "I don't know what I would've done [next week]," Jason laughed, knowing that the Final Three must each sing three tunes next Tuesday night.
Saying goodbye, the 20-year-old Texan strummed BOB MARLEY's "I Shot the Sheriff," reprising a performance SIMON COWELL had described as "utterly atrocious" the night before. And on this evening, RANDY JACKSON and Simon pounced all over the opportunity to defend their critiques of the finalists, which some fans decried as too harsh.
"I was just judging the way I saw the vocals," Randy said of his thumbs-down assessment of SYESHA MERCADO's take on "A Change is Going to Come." Also, was Simon really angry on Tuesday night, or did he just seem that way, host RYAN SEACREAST wondered. "I was just surprised at some of the disastrous song choices," Simon purred.
In the end, Jason's song choice proved the most disastrous. Known for his quick laugh and easy-going 'tude, he might have been done in by his own levity. Asked by a caller what his biggest challenge during "Idol" was, he joked: "The brain being dead?"
"Idol" alum BO BICE's brain, on the other lobe, seemed to be in perfect working order on Wednesday night. The bearded one performed his rollicking tune "Witness," and then announced that he and his wife were expecting a child. MAROON 5 also performed.
