Celeb Yo-Yo Dieting

A sitcom star drops an alarming amount of weight... a rocker balloons up after her breakup... While binge eating, anorexia and bulimia have always been a concern for moms with young daughters, love/hate relationships with food aren't reserved for the young. Women everywhere are battling with food -- and celebrities are no exception. Is there a health crisis in Hollywood or are they just like millions of other women and can't get a handle on the battle of the bulge?

We asked momlogic.com contributor Diane Hendericks, a.k.a. Dietician In The Kitchen, Chef & Nutritionist about the effects on yo-yo dieting and why women do it in the first place...

"Although the medical effects of yo-yo dieting haven't been fully proven, there has forever been theories about what it can do to you physically. The official term for this is called "weight cycling" and some say that it can slow down your metabolism, leave you with more fat than muscle, give you more fat around your gut and it will be harder to lose the weight again once you gain it back. As you get older, it's harder to lose pounds because your metabolism is slower. The psychological effects can also be devastating -- feeling like a failure, falling into depression and having an overwhelming lack of self-control. It can be so frustrating because you've done it before and you promised never to get back to this place."
