Purity for Selena Gomez A Personal Promise to God, Not A Trend
More and more young stars like The Jonas Brothers, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and Disney actress Selena Gomez (“Wizards of Waverly Place”) are speaking out about purity pledges and abstinence living. “I’ve had my ring since I was 12 years old,” Gomez told momlogic.com in a video interview. “But for me it’s not something I want to go around saying, ‘Hey, look what I have.’ It’s a promise I made to myself and God. I think some people misinterpret that as a trend and think everyone’s getting one.”   

Still, while some may feel purity pledges and rings are steps in the right direction, studies show vast sexual differences between virgins who’ve taken the purity pledge and pledge-free virgins.

  • i think its cool and all to make a sincere promise like that, but studies show must people who go ahead and pledge their virginity end up breaking them sooner if they hadn't at all. PLUS despite the jonas brothers....right here in the real world value is still placed on girls being virgins...not guys. that's not equality...

      i'd only be supportive of it (or more supportive and less critical) if guys were included in this round up. girls get pregnant from guys yet the guys are the ones who can run loose and do whatever

  • It's really hard to make such a decision at this era especially in the US but i'm so happy you made that choice and that i have a celebrity like you to compare myself to. I'm glad i made that choice too.
