Senator Natasha Stott Despoja bows out of political life

OUTGOING Democrats Senator Natasha Stott Despoja has made an impassioned plea to Australian women to fill her place in Parliament as she bows out of political life.The South Australian senator on Thursday will leave the political scene, finishing her Senate term after 13 years of legislating in Canberra.
She has urged women to pursue a life in politics, saying that while she needs to focus on her family women truly can have it all.
She stressed she was not sending a message that women with children could not be politicians, as mothers must be represented in Parliament.This week, packing up her office in preparation for her departure, the woman who famously baulked at having to hold a baby is a married mother-of-two whose priorities have shifted but whose passion for social justice burns as fiercely as it did in her days as a university student.Senator Stott Despoja is expecting to return home to Adelaide on Friday and deliberately has left her diary open so she can spend time with her "pigeon pair" – son Conrad, 3, and newborn daughter Cordelia. source
