Will You See 'The Dark Knight' Again?

Do you have plans to go back to see Hollywood's latest take on Batman? Send us your comments on the record-breaking superhero flick and you may end up on The Insider on TV tonight!

The much-anticipated superhero thriller ‘The Dark Knight’ broke the weekend opening record by earning an estimated $158.4 million, shattering the previous record set last year by 'Spider-Man 3,'  Warner Bros. confirmed.

Speaking about the record-breaking opening, Christian Bale told Britain's GMTV such amounts of money are hard to fathom. "It's Monopoly money to me – I can't even comprehend it." The star said studio financial expectations don't really affect him before his movies come out. "I always actually approach every movie as though no one is ever going to see it," he told GMTV.

'The Dark Knight' started off on Friday by setting a one-day box office record, taking in $66.4 million its opening day, according to distributor Warner Bros.

The movie beat out 'Spider-Man 3,' which earned $151.1 million during its weekend opening in May 2007, as well the two last 'Pirates of the Caribbean' films, 'Shrek the Third,' 'Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith' and the 'Harry Potter' series.

Warner Bros’ latest take on Batman, with a budget of $180 million, stars Bale as billionaire Bruce Wayne, whose alter ego attempts to protect Gotham City from a host of pesky villains. This time around, Batman, who gets romantic with a sexy crusader named Rachel Dawes, (Maggie Gyllenhaal), raises the stakes in his war on crime.

He also teams up with Lt. James Gordon (Gary Oldman) and Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker (Heath Ledger). While other forces plot against the group, the Joker's crimes grow even deadlier.

Fellow cast members have lauded Ledger's dark portrayal of evil -- a dramatic contrast from the actor's own persona -- and prompted many in the industry to predict the role will earn the late actor an Academy Award.

Warner Bros. is now predicting 'The Dark Knight' could gross as much as $220 million its first week. The studio reported that audience demographics for the film were ideally broad, with males representing 52 percent of patrons and ticket-buyers evenly split between those under 25 and older moviegoers.

  • I will absolutely see The Dark Knight again (On IMAX this time). Heath Ledger WAS the movie and it is sad we will not get an opportunity to see him as the joker in the future.

  • I haven't seen it yet and I don't plan to. I'm not into Batman and I don't see what the big deal about Heath Ledger is. I mean, I know it's his last film ever berfore he died, but I've never heard of him once in my life before he died. He shouldn't have over-dsed and everyone is making too big of a deal over it. I'm sick of hearing "Oh, Heath Ledger this," and "Heath Ledger that." People need to get a life and stop obsessing over some dead person that no one's barely ever heard of. So no, I'm not going to see it once, twice, or thee times. I'm out.

  • Not heard of Heath Ledger!!!!! Have you had your head in a hole? I am 65 and he was one of my favorite actors and in The Dark Knight he is wonderful and that would be my thought after I seen the movie and did not know who he was,and he did not OD. He was taking prescribed medicine from his doctor. The coroner said he had a low dose of all the medicines in his system and his bottles were almost full. He also has not had a drink for 17 months before he died, and this comes from the people he was working with on his new movie. They invited him out for a drink after shooting and he said no because he had stopped drinking. And by the way, I have a great life, thank you very much.

  • I saw it on the Imax screen... WOW... I am definitely going to see it again... and will purchase the DVD when it comes out... The photography was amazing, the acting superb... how will they ever fill the Jokers shoes again, after the eerily evil job that Heath did with the role... The best Batman movie to date... I would go so far as to say the Best Superhero movie yet. LOVED it!!!!

  • In case you didn't realize, America treats celebrities as somewhat gods. However, even though you never heard of him doesn't mean he never existed and caught the hearts of many people. Imagine your favorite teacher or your fav music artist died, the school would make a big deal and so would fans of that music artist, and i could just as easily said "why is your community making such a big deal over a teacher I never heard of or the music artists."
