The parents should have counseling and we ALL should think about what this reality-TV craze is doing to our society. • I think they should do time and I also think Marie has lost site of some important details of this hoax. The child publicly said "we did this for show". Under his parents instruction the child hid for some time in what looked like a box or a ceiling.

I feel strongly that this type of behavior, definately having psychological impact on the child should at least be considered when determining custody.

After all, this is the parenting in this family THAT WE KNOW ABOUT!

There way to many people that have killed others while drunk driving and are not in jail. Stop the madness!

  • The parents show no sense of remorse over anything they have done. The kids have been taken to chase tornadoes, how can that be responsible parenting? And on Wife Swap the kids were jumping from the balcony onto the couch. Come on! There has to be a point where the parent takes responsibility and acts like a parent, instead of a child themselves.

They gave up their personal freedoms when they needless endangered the lives of others. Temporary protective custody may be necessary for the interim.

But should the kids be taken away because he's a liar? What about the parents who repeatedly abuse their children, and aren't sentenced to long-term jail time? I think the Colorado Sheriffs Dept is just embarrased that they allowed themselves to be fooled by this man, and seek revenge.

It's just not about him lying, but the fact that he wasted alot of other people's time, used his kids for his own purposes, taught his children how to lie and make up stories, yells at his family etc. And he does this multiple times, it wasn't like he did it just *once.* He has been on Wife Swap twice, has youtube videos, and now fabricated a stunt.

So yeah, Big jerk. The kids are suffering, it's obvious.

When 12-16% of Americans are out of work, we're engaged in two wars and debating the future of health care in our country, it's insane that the media and many Americans are absolutely immersed in this scandal. Richard Heene being a moron does not necessarily mean he's an unfit parent.

I don't think parents will change, but these boys need to be taught right from wrong, and it sems they don't know that at this time in their life. So many of us prayed for that boys life, that is the one great thing about all of this, the boy is alive and well. Also if their is domestic violence in the home the boys should be safe from that.

  • Does anybody have any idea how a child feels being taken away from their parents. Don't punish the children. Many children who don't get to grow up with their family leads to many many many issues. Then they grow up and get married and push their issues onto their spouses and their children. People need to be very careful how their opinions affect kids. Yes the parents should be charged with a false report but don't hurt the kids.
    anonymous anonymous 10/19/09 Reply

There is no indication the children are in danger. Social Services is a "REACTIVE" entity. Their pervue is NOT to proactively go and seek out cases of neglect and abuse. Therefore this should be a non-issue in spite of the fact that they were in the media. Don't put on a stupid poll and waste peoples time.

Because of TV, everyone thinks they have a say. Let the authorities take care of this without anyone elses input. The last I have seen of them (the authorities), they truly do know how to charge the public for doing the wrong thing.

  • No, absolutely they should not be taken away from their parents...however, there should be some consequence to the parents for their actions. Taking the kids away would just traumatize them even more than they already are. The parents should be ordered to take parenting classes, or seek some sort of counceling to address their coersion and using of the kids for monetary gain.

Child Supportive Services (CSS)must investigate the allegations of child endangerment. The "rule of law" needs to play out in the course of time. If you break laws and are caught and convicted, our society's laws dictate the price to be paid.

  • The actions of the parents and involvement of the children was definitely a display of dishonesty, and teaches the children a negative set of values and morals. The children however were not in harms way and should stay with their parents. The family as a whole needs to learn from this mistake in judgement and the parents should be made to pay back the expenses of the whole 'hoax'.

The media is mad because they got hoaxed. We should all be glad it wasn't real. It was a good show while it lasted. Let's stop being so cynical over everything that happens.

  • Quick question for those of you who think the boys should be placed in foster care...how many of you are foster parents? If not, why not? Clearly you care about children and their well-being. Are you willing to walk your talk? If so, get licensed! And just so you know, CPS must convince a judge that the boys are in imminent danger of abuse or neglect to have them removed from their home. Placing children in foster care is a HUGE step and is - or should be - a last resort, not a first choice, when parents have lapses in judgement. The trauma of being in foster care, enduring multiple placements, being separated from siblings, etc., is often far more damaging to a child than having him or her remain in a not-so-great home. (And I'm not just talking, we adopted 6 of our foster children during our 10 years of being a licensed home.)

This society has a big issue with arresting non-violent supposed offenders. Everyone in Government is a liar so if they arrest him and take away the kids then I'll be expecting a major change in Government as well.
    anonymous anonymous 10/20/09 Reply

  • I can't even believe this is an issue or that anyone would consider treating these people as criminals. The father has his own mental processes which affected the nation in really no way other than furious opinions. I would say he's more of a victim that a criminal, a victim of his own reality tv issues. He deserves empathy and understanding. And the family shouldn't have to worry about uncle sam spitting and pissing on their freedom and pursuit of happiness. We pay taxes and thus the police serve us. If anything those fat cops needed something to do to keep them going. But I guess 2 seconds of running is an insult to pigs.

  • Removing the children from their home or imprisoning the parents will only harm the children. They don't need any more of that. They are well fed, appear loved, and are involved with a family that has problems. Pretty much the same as the rest of America, just that the problems are a bit different. Make the parents make restitution; place the family in counseling; and focus on healing.

--> It's disgusting that people are defending him. He could be a real abuser to his own wife, yet people claiming "Ohhh he is the victim! Leave him alone! Leave the family alone!"

What he lied was HUGE, and wasted YOUR money. He also brought out the prayers and well wishes of so many people, but made them appear like fools. He screwed with GOOD and sensible people! His own child was throwing up on tv!

People would complain for a poor abused child in Africa who is being raped or hit, but when it was some man messing with U.S citizens and destroying the minds of his own children, people would just defend him by saying it was just a silly lie. It was not JUST a lie >.> what he did was seeeeerrriiioooussss. He lied to people who save lives and help others. He was teaching his kids how to lie to athurities and make up fabricated stories in order to get attention! It wasn't like he was teaching his kids to know how to talk to strangers - he was teaching them how to create a panic, that fame is important, he also taught them how to swear in those music videos and to run wild.

I think he should just be removed from the family altogether. The family themselvs should be paying for this.
