    • So...Any parent that works hard, and have vacations and fun... shouldn't have their children?
      anonymous 6 AarronD 11/10/09

    • He shouldn't have any visitation?? You mean his children should go without their father because he enjoys life without his wife? Seriously? Think about what you are saying? Lose his children? Really?
      anonymous anonymous 11/10/09

    • I will tell you what I see him doing more with his kids they 80% of the fathers now days ...If fathers spent 10% more time with there kids we would be in a better place now days

    • Jon does not care about the money. I want you to tell me who really wants the money and who would be that greedy.Jon and kate are dealing with the situation perfectly of taking turns living in the house they bought for the kids. Who ever wrote that Jon cares about the money and having a good time should really think about what they said because you are Wrong.

    • I totally agree...he really needs to stop showing his stupid face! I'm getting sick of hearing about this idiot! Get a real life....your kids don't need to be exposed to your wrong doings...

    • Yea he might love the money but so does she.. she just wants to look good and exploit the kids for money... she says that she needs the show to make money.. but jesus get a job like everyone else... we will forget about her within a year so go back to work.. she is a nurse.. she can make some money while the kids are in school..

    • Jon should not even have visitation until he grows up and learns to shut his mouth & stop this media blitz. He is hurting his children beyond all measure.
      anonymous anonymous 11/11/09

    • If you think this is dangerous you are plain and simply an idiot. The ATV isn't moving. If it was moving then yes a helmet should have been worn. However if this is dangerous to you then you should also make sure your kids do not climb on chairs, the sofa, any steps, and OMG don't let them on a swing set. If you think this is dangerous then your just stupid. Grow up and leave the guy alone.
      anonymous anonymous 11/11/09

  • I just think Jon should at least have his kids where helmets.

He doesn't even care if you think he is a douchebag cause he still gets the money paid to him by the media. This is how he is going to provide for his children? rotten, rotten father.

  • there boys, bad enough they will grow up being overprotected...lets not make them sissies too. Way to go Jon shows the kids what being a boy is all about, some scrapes and scratches is what being a kid is about.
Your all a bunch of sissies
    anonymous anonymous 11/9/09 Reply

    • I don't think you really mean that. I was a nurse for 24 years. Heving to tell a parent that their child is permanetly brain damaged or dead from an ATV is more common than you might think. Your children need you to be the adult and make SAFE choices. At least if they grow up to be sissies, it's much better than what could possibly happen.

  • I have seen my share of atv injuries as a nurse.I saw one child who had his leg cut open to the bone after he bounced off the seat and the father ran over him after hitting a bump. The Child riding in front of John should have a helmet on and the child running beside the atv should have been instructed to wait his turn in a safe place. John obviously is putting both these children in serious danger as all atv dealers would surely tell him the high potential of these ATV's have to rollover and that any child you supposedly love should have a helmet on as well as keeping other children away from the ATV due to the high potential of burns, rollovers , and 9 gozillion other horrible things. Obviously John has no need for a helmet as he doesnt seem to have a working brain in the first place by putting his children in this danger.

  • Jon Gosselin is a terrible father and person generally. Every interview he gives, all the photos he poses for, all show how everything is all about Jon, Jon, Jon! Every statement is self serving, never for the good of anyone else other than himself. Why do people in the public media still focus on this guy?
    anonymous anonymous 11/9/09 Reply

  • Jon has not demonstrated an ounce of regard for his kids. He is selfish and irresponsible. I began to despise him when he blurted out, "I just want to be Jon, not Jon and Kate plus 8". He should lose custody as he is clearly unfit to make decisions for himself or anyone, much more those innocent little 8.
    anonymous anonymous 11/9/09 Reply

  • Where was Jon when they were looking for someone to fill the dumber role on dumb and dumber. His legacy will be filled with many distasteful thoughts, but dumb is an understatement. Did he ever go to school. My 18 month old baby has more smarts and sense than him. Oh and my dog too. Come to think of it, my pet rock is smarter than Jon.

  • John & Kate need to get off the media circus and focus on family custody and the future of their children. The two of them are a joke.

How can he allow himself to be next to his girlfriend during an interview and have her put him down and discuss their personal relationship? Did he not get enough abuse on their TV show from Kate?

Kate, cut the crying. She is so phony and only interested in your TV appearance and future on TV.

When does John spend time with his 8 kids? When does Kate when she is flying all over the world doing book tours and talk shows
    anonymous anonymous 11/9/09 Reply

    • Kate is hardly in the media and only once about the divorce while Jon has appeared daily in the media & on several outlets for months and months. How ridiculous to compare them! Kate said her piece once & had a right to do so but Jon can't shut up for even one day. Now he endangers his childrens on quads without helmuts & exposes them when he has custody to strange people like paps, media and fans. Those kids are getting exposed to the Swine Flu constantly being exposed to the media and public on Jon's custody days. He only cares about himself.
      anonymous anonymous 11/10/09

    • Kate's one interview was the most real and authentic I've ever seen and if everyone couldn't see how deeply hurt she is then they have lost their humanity. I'm a real body language expert, forget the media paid ones. They say what the network wants them to say. My experience shows that kate was authentic and a woman in deep pain and confusion that a person she loves has turned into something she doesn't even recognize who now cares only about himself. Kate from her body language is truly the only one that loves and protects those children.
      anonymous anonymous 11/10/09

  • I always thought Kate treated Jon badly. Now I thin the other way. If he really cared about his kids he would have stayed home and help raise them. Had a father just like him and when I grew up and understood what he was I never like him again. Jon will pay the price

  • As a parent who quads with my kids this picture is horrifying! Helmets, chest protectors and almost just as important boots every time! More kids get shattered ankles and burnt legs because parents are careless and go just this once and this kind of thing is what makes people think all of us who enjoy the sport with our children are putting our children in harms way! Shame on you him!!!!!!!!
    anonymous anonymous 11/9/09 Reply

  • Ignorance is bliss as long as it does not risk the health and safety of your children. Jon is one selfish person to put his need to be the good guy and have fun before his kids well being. You can't man up so at least try Fathering up.
    anonymous anonymous 11/9/09 Reply

  • I think that neither Jon or Kate should have the kids. If it was me in a battle for who is going to have more fame and tv time. I would have child services at my door ready to take my kids away. We are all tired of those two. If the producers of all the tv shows take a stand and say no more of them. I think they will fade away like the other woman (whats her name) with all the kids. See thats how long it takes to forget you. TAKE NOTICE!!!!
    anonymous anonymous 11/10/09 Reply

    • Kate has done NOTHING that would cause CPS to take the kids away from her. She keeps the kids away from the media during her custody time while Jon sells and sells them to any and all media. Jon is endangering them by this intense media attention & he has even started thrwoing them under the bus individually.
      anonymous anonymous 11/10/09

  • YES -You could run over one of these kids with them running beside the all terrain vehicle! that's crazy
    anonymous anonymous 11/10/09 Reply

  • First kids that young shouldn't be riding on one. Second they should have a helmut. Wet grass is slippery and they could have tipped in a split second.
    anonymous anonymous 11/10/09 Reply

    • You think? Hardly! The ATV would have to be turned on and moving for that to happen! They're posing for a picture and that's not gonna tip 'em over either.
      anonymous anonymous 11/10/09

  • This is all Jon does with them at home. Too lazy to do anything else. Careless, lazy and Jon is a kid himself. No wonder Kate got frustrated. This is totally irresponsible.
    anonymous anonymous 11/10/09 Reply

  • Jon is a child himself. All Jon has done for months is sold pics and videos of the kids when he has had custody. That's the only reason he is there. He makes money off selling his kids to the media & papas. Kate keeps the children out of the media glare now.
    anonymous anonymous 11/10/09 Reply

    anonymous anonymous 11/10/09 Reply

  • The kids are too young to be on one legally to begin with & second they should have a helmut on. Whether it's 5 mph or 20 mph the injuries can be extremely serious. Jon has to appear on tv DAILY & mouth off. Kate has said her piece one time which she had a right to do but she never blasted Jon like he deserved while Jon apologizes to Kate and blasts her all in the same breath. Jon is useless!
    anonymous anonymous 11/10/09 Reply

  • Come on!!!!! Stop trashing him. Take a look at back episodes and look how bad Kate would yell at him and belittle him! Leave him alone! He's not as money hungry as Kate is. She is constantly gone from those kids promoting her books and being pampered.

      anonymous anonymous 11/10/09

    • There are laws in our state that children have to wear elbow pads helmets, knee pads while on bikes when young you cannot fix the tragedies that occor when a parent is boasting because he tries to kick his ex wife, it seems he has no common sense and doesnt care really what happens to the kids, because Kate is going to take care of their every need and he has time to bs and be ignorant im not going to watch insider anymore if his ignorantce is going to be a part of it.

  • Just a note, PA law states that it is ILLEGAL to operate an ATV without a securely fastened helmet. Yes, there is an ATV helmet law, and it applies to private land as well as public. It is enforceable by both state and local police. Fines are $50 to $200 plus the cost of prosecution for the first offense and $100 to $300 plus the cost of prosecution for the second offense.

There have never been any photo shots of her leaving a bar at 2 in the morning with a man other than Jon He is the slimeball that is all over the media with every young piece of a_ _ that will let him near them. I amy not like how Kate used to behave but she has admitted she made many mistakes and is trying to change her behavior. I don't see Jon doing anything but seeing how many women he can shag and not even thinking that someday his kids will see all of this online somewhere. There are always consequences to any action. If Jon didn't want to be with Kate ,fine get a divorce then move on with your life. Don't act like a jerk for the whole world and your kids to see. If Kate was working as a nurse or cleaning floors somewhere she would be lauded as a hard working mom but because she is traveling and promoting her book she is a "bad" mom. Get over that people. What about all there actresses who do exactly the same thing.
Jon is the scum here not Kate.

Jon does not have the safty of his kids on the little bit of miind he has, well iif any. Protect your kids at any expense. Buying one of the twins an ATV just shows what a jerk you are.

  • Both parents should have custody but under the terms they are to seek more time and interest in being great parents FIRST, AND, still being able to persue healthy hobbies, interests, or recreational activities or Nothing but being parents until their kids are 18 if they can't handle the pressure of more than that.

  • In my family all the kids grew up riding with our parents on atv's. I got my own dirtbike when I was 10. My little sister got her first 50cc atv when she was 5. It didn't go fast at all. However we alway wore helments unless we were using the atv's for farm work. I don't see a problem with it as long as he teaches them to be responsible on them and that they are dangerous so be careful.

  • helmets aren't a must unless you're going to drive at fast speeds. I grew up with 4-wheelers, and I've never been hurt. As long as kids meet the age requirement posted on the ATV, then they're ok to drive it. But if he's driving it, it's safe for any of them to ride on it. City people panic and think everything is dangerous. But it's perfectly safe. It makes me sick how the media turns normal family activities into taboo topics. Just let him spend time with his kids and get off his back. It's his choice how he wants to raise them. He doesn't have to raise them other ways just because the media says so. Jon you did nothing wrong. You're a good father.

As he explained, he did not have the vehicle on and when he leaves it, he puts on the emergency brake and takes the key. Why would the children need a helmet to sit on it with their father? Does that mean they need a helmet to sit in a chair? As for the "no helmet when on a bike" issue. Yes, it's true that it's recommended to wear a helmet on a bike nowadays but I never wore one and neither did my friends, my brother, my cousins, and any of the other children when I grew up and we're all still alive. Please, let the man be a father to his children. We already have far too many men neglecting to do so these days.

You don't need a helmet when you are puttin' around on rural property. Certainly if you are hot rodding around, then common sense prevails. Unfortunately, the CPCS can't depend on common sense and most legislate to the lowest common denominator...

Right on about your comment about your comment regarding your grandmother in an electric wheelchair. How about making kids on skateboards use helmets? Kids on foot driven scooters? I have a picture of my father with my daughter at the age 2-3 on his lap and my niece in a little cart attached behind his riding lawnmoweer giving them a ride around the yard....my daughter just turned 38 and my niece is 41, and they are both very much alive and completely healthy!
Jon may have made some decisions regarding his personal life that many may disagree with but he does not strike me as the type of parent who would intentionally put his children in physical jeopardy!

We live in PA and both are kids started riding ATV's at age 5, children need to learn how to ride/drive, it teaches them hand eye coordination and responsibility. Maybe more people should take the time to spend with their children OUTSIDE and teach them some life skills. In a lot of rural areas children are driving tractors by age 10 and your putting down John because he bought his kids some atv's. Leave John ALONE

(CBS) The death rate of kids using all-terrain vehicles in the United States increased significantly during a recent five-year span, according to one report, adding fuel to efforts by a parents' group to restrict and ultimately ban the use of the machines by anyone under 16.

The industry insists voluntary safety standards already in place are working.

Concerned Families for ATV Safety says the report, being released Tuesday by West Virginia University's Injury Control Research Center, shows a 24 percent jump, to an average of 171 a year, in deaths of kids using ATVs from 2000-2004, about the same time during which the industry has been policing itself with its guidelines.

The group says the new findings "for the first time, directly refute that claim. This data clearly shows that the dangers of ATVs are increasing" at an alarming rate.

Carol Ellert Keezer, a co-founder of the group, lost her 12-year-old son, Alex, in an ATV accident.

She told The Early Show consumer correspondent Susan Koeppen she'd never heard of anyone being killed using an ATV, and thought Alex's death was a freak occurrence.

But soon, Keezer found other mothers who had lost children in such mishaps, and they formed Concerned Families for ATV Safety.

For starters, the group is pushing for a federal ban on the sale of adult-size ATVs for use by anyone under 16. In the long run, the group wants a complete ban on ATV use by kids in that age range.

"Warning labels, manuals, and safety courses are not preventing our children from dying," says Keezer, referring to a voluntary safety campaign the industry has in place.

But the industry says the proper use of ATVs is key, and ATV dealers face disciplinary actions from manufacturers if dealers are found selling adult-sized ATVs for use by kids.

The industry says it favors state — not federal — legislation regarding ATV safety.

Among other things, industry spokespeople say mandatory training on ATV use for kids under 16 would help, as would the mandatory use of helmets and protective gear, and mandatory supervision by adults.

The industry asserts it's the way people ride four-wheelers, not a lack of regulation, that leads to accidents, injuries and deaths, and says parents need to make smart decisions about whether or not their kids are physically and mentally ready to handle an ATV.

Keezer says she doesn't think the ATV industry is doing enough to inform parents about the dangers.

And on The Early Show Tuesday, Carolyn Anderson, another co-founder of Concerned families for ATV Safety, told co-anchor Harry Smith the problem centers around "children driving large, powerful machines that are inappropriate for children under the age of 16. They're too dangerous.

"The American Academy of Pediatrics and many other child safety advocates say (ATVs are) too dangerous for children. This study bears that fact out. They're killing and injuring just so many children, they're not safe.

"Children under the age of 16 don't have the judgment skills or common sense required to operate a motor vehicle like that safely. They just don't have the ability to do that."

As for industry claims that mandatory training on ATV use and mandatory adult supervision could minimize risks, Anderson asks rhetorically, "Would you say that your child can operate your Corvette as long as he's had two hours of training? I don't think so."

However, I would like to add that he shouldn't publicly speak so negatively about Kate. They should both show their children that they know how to conduct themselves and have respect for one another.

Media has a way of portraying him as irresponsible, but that would lead me to believe that 80%of the So. Cali people that take their kids out to the desert camping and riding quads, dirt bikes etc... are bad parents. The numberous people that live in the back woods of many states that allow their children to ride ATV's are bad parents. Where does this craziness end, when will people learn to just mind their own business sometimes. I get it, if a child is in danger then... yes by all means get involved. But goodness, this nosiness into the type of fun being had by families is flat out ridiculous.

I think Jon is a good dad, I always felt sorry for him on the show, he was treated and bossed around like the kids. The poor guy is finally having the chance to enjoy life. Although I don't condone the absence of helmets for certain activities, I really don't see that it's such a big issue that Jon doesn't have the kids wear helmets.

You can't say that he didn't just let the kids sit on the atv or if he was rolling slowly with them on the machine. And he does have lots of acreage to roll around on it, he isn't foolish enough to drive fast on the atv with the kids on it. Have you been in a poverty area, do you see any kids wearing a helmet riding there bikes in the streets? No one says anything about them not having a helmet, so why make such a big deal out of Jon riding the kids on his atv without a helmet. Plus if you knew the older girls enough, one of them is very sports oriented. She knows what to do and a 50cc doesn't go very fast anyway. It's good that he is showing them, instead of not being there while they investigate the atv. Get over it already!!

A good parent would not speak ill of the other parent, even if the other parent is out of line. Remember your children will have accesss to this in the not too distant future!

  • I know a couple who lost there only son @ age 13 because he was riding an ATV wearing the wrong (his father's) helmet. it happened on their own land ,on a trail he was very familiar with. all Jon has to do i a gopher hole that wasn't there yesterday or a rock he doesn't see and the boy will be thrown from his arms with no helmit to protect him. I guess if you have 8 kids lossing one doesn't matter as much to you. My grandma used to say people like that must have kids offally easy. Does Kate the one who birthed them ride like that I bet not

  • Jon is an IDIOT, saying its ok they have like 45 acres or what ever of land who cares. That has nothing to do with the kids getting hurt from the activities he lets the kids do without helmets. And this show and ET must be having a hard time getting people to be on your show. When you have to stoop to people like Jon, Hailey, and Michael Lohan. And they actually get paid. Wake up INSIDER and ET. Your show has really gone to the gutter.

  • NO, he is not putting his kids in danger and if you think he was you obviously have no idea what you are talking about and just go with your feelings about him personally, have no idea about ATVs, or just go with what you think the people on TV are leaning you towards. It's no different than his kids playing on a jungle gym. Do your kids wear helmets on the swing set? As long as it was not moving then they were FINE GET A CLUE PEOPLE! If it was moving around then he should have them in helmets.

Also ET and the insider should lose their liscences for putting talent on their show who has a contractual obligation to another company. LOSERS
