About Me
This year, Lara Spencer celebrates her second season based in Los Angeles as Host of THE INSIDER.
Previously, Spencer served as New York-based Co-Anchor of THE INSIDER, a role she began at the show’s inception in 2004, when it premiered as the highest-rated debut of any newsmagazine in syndication since 1996.
Spencer has covered numerous high-profile stories and red carpet moments for THE INSIDER. During the 2008 Presidential election, Spencer notably interviewed Todd Palin about his wife Sarah Palin’s vice presidential campaign, as well as presidential candidate John McCain’s daughter Meghan. In 2009, Spencer also hosted the Young Hollywood Awards and co-hosted the “Live From the Red Carpet” Daytime Emmy Pre-Show.
During her career with THE INSIDER, Spencer has interviewed many of the industry’s biggest stars, including Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Hilary Swank, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Barry Manilow, Tom Cruise, Daniel Craig, Eddie Murphy, Meryl Streep, Bette Midler, Jeremy Piven, Leonardo DiCaprio, Donald Trump and Lucy Liu.
In 2008, Spencer interviewed Oscar de la Hoya after his cross-dressing scandal and legendary journalist Barbara Walters about her best-selling autobiography. Spencer also traveled to many exotic locations for exclusive interviews, such as Panama City, with the cast of “Quantum of Solace”; Egypt with the cast of “Jumper”; Athens, Greece with the cast of “Mamma Mia.”
Also in 2008, Spencer was named one of the “25 Best Dressed New Yorkers” by US Weekly and served as host of the Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards, which raises awareness of heart disease in women. She also served as a guest expert on The CW’s top-rated show, “America’s Next Top Model” and has made numerous appearances on CBS’s “The Early Show.”
In November 2006, Spencer traveled to Rome to cover all the details of the highly anticipated wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
In 2005, Spencer conducted an exclusive interview with former schoolteacher Mary Kay LeTourneau and the student she fell in love with, Vili Fualaau, which included going behind the scenes of their controversial wedding.
Spencer has hosted two CBS primetime television specials: “Red Carpet Confidential,” which revealed the beauty and style secrets of the stars; and “An Entertainment Tonight Event – Celebrity Weddings Unveiled,” which gave a behind-the-scenes look at the lavish wedding moments, mementos and mishaps of Hollywood celebrities.
Spencer began her broadcasting career at WDEF-TV in Chattanooga, Tenn., before moving to News 12 in Long Island, N.Y.
From 1995 to 1999, Spencer was a lifestyle reporter for WABC-TV’s “Eyewitness News” in New York City. In addition, she appeared on “Eyewitness News This Morning” and reported on many high-profile stories including the crash of TWA Flight 800 and the death of Princess Diana.
She moved to a national stage in 1999, when she joined “Good Morning America” as a national correspondent. During her tenure there, she was the head reporter on the Emmy-nominated “GMA” series, “50 States in 50 Weeks: In Search of America,” which featured Spencer exploring the diversity of the American states on a road trip across America.
In 2003, Spencer signed on as host of the most-watched series on PBS, “Antiques Roadshow.” She hosted the show from 2004-05, while pulling double duty as co-anchor of THE INSIDER.
Spencer graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

Love the new Insider, love the guests especially Nancy Grace and Star Jones. Star is especially good on this panel. You always look great Lara and do a great job. I think the new format is terrific.

Lara;
I have LOVED The Insider for years, but I too am very unhappy with this new format. I am sorry they feel you cannot pull off the hosting job without all this hullabaloo. You are a marvelous host, and a beautiful person, and I really wish you could have the show back, as your show, with some gossip, and some news as you have done in the pass.
Thanks for the chance to vent. Please pass this on to the powers that be, and ask them to put the show back the way it was. I am not going to be watching any more. -
Lara,
Hi i found out you were a diver at garden city high school which i attend and i am currently a diver there. I am assuming since you were county champion you hold the diving record. I was wondering if you remember the record. Please write back.

Lara,
I have watched The Insider every night since you have hosted. I have given the new format sometime and I must admit that I hate it. I will no longer be watching the show. I think all of the co hosts are great on their own, but come on...what is the point. It is too over the top, phony and cheesy!
Sorry I will no longer share my evening with you. -
Lara would you please let MJ children and his family mourn in peace. Every day its the insider and et got something to say enough already, let him rest in peace. I know you have a job to do but less have some compassion for his kids and family. Good Luck with your career.
