Paris Hilton happy to be role model for girlsISTANBUL (Reuters) - Paris Hilton, the celebrity and hotel heiress who spent a stint in jail last year, said on Thursday she sees herself as a role model for young women as she prepared to judge a contest to crown Miss Turkey. Hilton, who will sit on a jury to select Miss Turkey 2008, said she valued not only beauty but also "good heart" when looking at the contestants' attributes. "This is my first time judging anything like this," she told Reuters. "I'm going to look at how the girls carry themselves, what they look like, the way they dress and what they say." It might seem ironic that Hilton, 27, sees herself as a role model and is judging what other women will say about their lives and futures. She starred in U.S. reality TV show "The Simple Life" portraying herself as a rich girl overcome by the boring routine of daily, middle-class life. Hilton earned a lot of unwanted publicity in 2003 after an amateur sex video of her hit the Internet, and spent three weeks in a Los Angeles last year in a drunken driving case. But her name is used to sell a host of products around the world and she is followed by paparazzi. Hilton said 90 percent of stories about her in the media are "complete lies," and she blamed the numerous bloggers on the Internet for spreading misinformation. "I don't pay attention to lies because I am a good person, I work very hard and I've built this empire on my own. I think this is an inspiration for a lot of girls out there." Asked if she was happy to be seen as a role model by girls, Hilton said: "Yes." Hilton, whose grandfather Barron Hilton decided to donate 97 percent of his $2.3 billion wealth to charity, said she did not have any hard feelings about his decision, which many presumed would drastically reduce her future inheritance. "It won't affect me anyway," she said. "My grandfather is an incredible man. He is very generous. And what he is doing is amazing." Hilton's latest project is a show on MTV in which people will compete to be her friend. "Paris Hilton's My New BFF" (best friend forever) is set to air on the U.S. cable network later this year. "I obviously have a lot of friends already, but I just thought it would make great TV show," she said. "You know, most of my friends are from Hollywood. They are kind a jaded a little bit. We are going to be meeting people from all around the world."

Ellen named top TV host, Larry King least sexy: pollLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Ellen DeGeneres has topped rival Oprah Winfrey in a popularity poll of television hosts -- while veteran Larry King was labeled the least sexy. The poll by Web site AOL Television asked readers which daytime TV host made their day and DeGeneres, who opens "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" by dancing with her audience, trounced Oprah with 46 percent of the vote, while Winfrey only won 19 percent. When asked which daytime host made the ideal dinner guest, again it was DeGeneres, with 47 percent of respondents saying they would rather dine with her, compared to 14 percent for Winfrey, long considered the queen of daytime TV with "The Oprah Winfrey Show." The poll, whose results were released on Wednesday, received more than 1.35 million votes, and AOL Television Editor in Chief Scott Robson said the poll was unique for the broad cross-section of respondents who frequent AOL. "(Our audience) is not just soccer moms. We really do combine everyone from hipsters to people who could care less about what happens on either coast," Robson said. Among other findings, fans of morning talk shows favored ABC's Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America" over her main rivals, Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira, on NBC's "Today.' Sawyer was favored as the morning show host whom most people would want to wake to, winning 30 percent of the vote, versus 26 percent for Lauer and 25 percent for Vieira. "She has a news background, so she can straddle that line between coming at you with real news and talking to you as a real person," Robson said. The "Good Morning America" host also was voted the most likely to make a good U.S. president, with 34 percent favoring her over rivals that included Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and Oprah, both with 22 percent. Among some of the other findings, Kelly Ripa of "Live with Regis and Kelly" was named the sexiest talk show host and the one with the best hair, while Larry King of "Larry King Live," who has been married seven times, was named least sexy. Elisabeth Hasselbeck of "The View" was voted worst interviewer, and her co-star Whoopi Goldberg was picked to win in an "all-out 'View' smackdown" among the program's panel that includes Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters.

Kate Moss dances on Jim Morrison's Grave Kate Moss and her boyfriend got a telling off from French police when they were busted dancing on Jim Morrison’s grave recently. The model and her Doherty-upgrade Jamie Hince were spotted wailing the words to Alabama Song by The Doors while dancing and intermittently pashing on Jim’s grave in Paris. "Jim Morrison is the patron saint of cool, so it was a lovely quirky gesture,” said a witness. Apparently Kate and Jamie got a stern talking to from the French cops, then left the cemetery still giggling and singing more Doors songs. Somehow, we don’t think Jim would have minded.

A Real Shot at Friendship with Paris Paris Hilton is looking to get real again. Now that former partner-in-crime Nicole Richie is a mommy, the Simple Life star is on the hunt for a new best friend—and MTV will be the vehicle that helps Hilton determine who's hot and who's not. The network has announced plans for 10 episodes of the tentatively titled Paris Hilton's My New BFF, which will feature the hotel heiress choosing from 20 potential galpals and wingmen who will compete—probably somewhat viciously—for her platonic affections, according to trade reports. Like current MTV hottie Tila Tequila, Hilton will also be choosing from a coed field of contestants. All of the wannabe Hilton compadres will room together in a house pimped out to MTV perfection and, in the end, one of them will be declared Paris' "bestie" and get to accompany her to Hollywood parties, business events and other velvet-rope functions. In addition to her role as ringmaster, Hilton will also serve as an executive producer on the series, which is set to begin production in Los Angeles in May with an eye on a fall premiere. L.A. hospital may fire staff over Spears The hospital where pop star Britney Spears was hospitalized in late January for psychiatric evaluation has suspended some employees and may fire others for looking at the singer's medical records, a source familiar the situation said on Friday. The UCLA Medical Center, where Spears was under observation, issued a statement saying that all staff must sign confidentiality agreements and the hospital has "stringent policies to protect patient" privacy. "When possible confidentiality breaches arise, UCLA immediately launches a1n investigation and appropriate disciplinary action would then be initiated," said the statement. "Due to the confidential nature of both patient and personnel issues, no further information is available." The Los Angeles Times on Friday said UCLA has taken measures to fire at least 13 employees, discipline as many as six more and could take action against six doctors for accessing computers to search through Spears' medical records. The source, who asked to remain anonymous, did not know the number of employees affected but said the Times story appeared to be accurate. The Times cited an organizer for a hospital employees union as saying the group was representing three UCLA Medical Center workers who were told they would be fired. A UCLA Medical Center spokeswoman said the Times' source did not come from ospital, but she declined to comment beyond the hospital's statement. Under federal law, only doctors and medical staff directly involved with a patient may work with records. Spears, 26, was hospitalized twice in January and placed under psychiatric observation both times, but her condition remains a mystery. Early in the month, Spears was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after going into a fit of hysterics when representatives of her ex-husband tried to retrieve their two children after a weekend visit with Spears. The second hospitalization at UCLA Medical Center occurred in late January after police were called to her house, but the reason she was taken to the hospital was never revealed. Since then, a Los Angeles family court has given her father Jamie Spears control of her personal and business affairs, and she has had only limited visitation with her two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1. But while she is considered unable to care for herself by the court, this week the pop singer has worked on a U.S. television program, "How I Met Your Mother," and released an animated video of her latest single, "Break the Ice." On Monday a hearing in Los Angeles will look into a temporary restraining order against her former, self-styled manager Sam Lutfi.

Thursday March 13, 02:55 PM Kidman gives botox a bad name: expert Nicole Kidman is so over-botoxed she is giving the cosmetic medicine industry a bad name for creating a "bat face" look, a leading Canadian botox expert has told Australian specialists. The Australian star has denied using the anti-wrinkle treatment, recently saying her look is "completely natural". But Dr Martin Braun, one of the largest users of botox on the American continent, says there is no doubt Kidman has been an "enthusiastic user". Dr Braun, who is based in Vancouver, dubbed "Hollywood North", told the Australian cosmetic medicine conference on the Gold Coast that he believed Kidman was "doing too much at the wrong time" with the drug, which works by paralysing muscles and softening the face. "Nicole seems to get her botox done two or three weeks before a big event so when she, for instance, goes up on stage to collect her Academy Award she looks frozen and strange," Dr Braun told AAP. "She looks like a bat with too much of an (outer) brow lift, the middle of the brow's been dropped, she's crying when she accepts her Oscar but nothing is moving. "That's really doing nothing to help our job because we've got women coming to us saying that's what we don't want to look like." He said users should be getting their injections two to three months out from a big event so the effect had started to wear off, and actors in particular should use minimal product. "Everything is accentuated on camera so I would say they should be going much easier than they are so they don't look like a doe caught in headlights," Dr Braun said. "These people who have extraordinary amounts of money and fame are actually getting, in my opinion, poor medical advice." Dr Gabrielle Caswell, from the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia (CPSA), agreed Kidman was a likely botox user, saying "she's a bit too wrinkle-free for an Australian of her skin tone". "She was using a little too much, especially in the forehead," said Dr Caswell, a specialist with clinics in NSW and Queensland. "Obviously she's not at the moment because she's pregnant but the photos show a lot more expression in her face now." Dr Caswell said it was industry consensus that other Australian stars like Elle Macpherson and Kylie Minogue also used botox, and Angelina Jolie, the so-called gold standard of beauty, was "a definite". Dr Braun said he believed 99 per cent of stars in Hollywood or otherwise were botox converts, "they just don't like admitting it, that's all". Newly-released US statistics show there were 2.7 million botox procedures carried out in 2007, more than all the liposuction, breast augmentation and skin-plumping procedures put together. The CPSA estimates Australians spent $300 million on non-surgical treatments last year, with the biggest spending on botox. Comment was being sought from Kidman's publicist.

Chan's father Charlie died in a Hong Kong hospital on February 26, aged 93, after battling prostate cancer. Chan brought his body back to Canberra to be laid to rest beside Lee Lee Chan, who died in 2002. "It's a hard day. I loved my father so much because he did so much for me when I was young. We had a very poor family and he left Hong Kong to support himself. He was just the greatest father for me," a distraught Chan told reporters. Hundreds of mourners including the U.S. ambassador and Chinese deputy envoy attended the funeral at a leafy winery on the outskirts of Canberra, before burial at a nearby cemetery. Chan arrived early in a black bead-embroidered suit and dark wrap sunglasses, walking past vineyards and scores of floral wreaths lining the entrance to the DeVine winery complex. Inside, the flower-draped casket lay in front of a photo of Charlie Chan with his favorite fishing caps and wooden pipe. Jackie Chan, star of Hollywood films such as "Rush Hour" and "Rumble in the Bronx," arrived in Australia aged 6 after his father moved there for work in the 1960s, but was soon sent back to Hong Kong to attend the China Drama Academy. He continued to spend lengthy periods in Canberra with his parents, briefly attending a local high school. Living in Australia for 40 years, Charlie Chan went from head cook at the U.S. embassy to a successful local restaurant owner, though most of his final years were spent in Hong Kong with his actor son after his wife died. "Australia and Canberra really took care of my family for more than 40 years," Chan said, adding he would open a university medical research centre named after the family on Sunday. Chan will shortly team with fellow action star Jet Li for the new adventure epic The Forbidden Kingdom, to be filmed in China, and is also a goodwill envoy for this year's Beijing Olympics. He said he planned one day to move his parents' bodies back to their homeland of China. Charlie Chan came from Shandong province, close family friend David Ng told Reuters. Friends and mourners inside the funeral said Chan was "very distressed" as he and others passed a wall of family photographs, many showing father and son hugging or fishing together. Messages of support were read from former U.S. vice-president Al Gore and film director Quentin Tarantino. Chan and his son Jason led mourners from the service carrying a large photo of his father before traveling to the cemetery, where roses and fishing mementoes were placed alongside the casket in the grave. Tom Cruise on Scientology Recruit Mission

Superstar actor Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes are both embroiled in a scary new campaign to convert the rest of the world to their highly controversial religion. Tom, 45, and Katie, 29, are risking their careers as well as what's left of their reputations in an astonishing plot hatched by the Church of Scientology. The first stage of the global expansion plan is to attract more celebrities to the church. Tom and Katie's star power will be used to draw them in, and the specially built Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International in Hollywood will convert them. And probably the most shocking part is that some of Hollywood's most troubled young stars will be pawns in the elaborate game plan. Lindsay Lohan is among those on the 'hit list' due to her continued and much-publicised struggle with drug and alcohol addictions. Even after her spell in the Cirque Lodge treatment facility, Lindsay has suffered many relapses. So Tom thinks she will be a prime candidate for Scientology's drug rehabilitation program Narconon. Actress Kirstie Alley claims Narconon helped her win her battle with cocaine addiction, and she donated $5.5 million to help the Church of Scientology with its expansion. But with Kirstie's fame fading, Lindsay is seen as the perfect replacement from the current generation of Hollywood stars. 'The church is always evolving and we are the only ones who can help people with these kind of problems,' a church insider boasts to New Idea. 'Our drug treatment program Narconon has the highest success rate in the world, and we should be thanked for our efforts to reach out to those in need. 'Look at Eva Mendes. She is making the same mistake Lindsay Lohan did, trusting her rehabilitation to psychiatrists and quack doctors. She would be much better off with us where she could find the true path to enlightenment. I hope she knows she's welcome at any time.' Lindsay and Eva aren't the only stars being targeted, with Tom also wasting no time in trying to recruit troubled pop star Britney Spears. He sent a get well message to her saying that he knows she can get through her current difficulties and regain her status as one of the world's biggest stars. Tom's intentions were far from good. According to Britney's manager, the message was followed by a series of calls from the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International encouraging her to come in for 'meetings' so she can find out how her psychiatrists are deceiving her and how therapy makes her problems worse. Once inside the centre, former church members say Britney would be pressured into agreeing to be 'audited', a kind of pseudo-psychological evaluation. This involves an 'E-Meter', an invention of Scientology's founder L. Ron Hubbard that has never been proven to have any scientific merit. The real purpose of the 'audit', according to former members, is to coerce people like Britney into revealing all of their most intimate and personal secrets. These could then be used to force her into staying within the church, and even highlighted as reasons why she should take expensive ‘courses' at the centre or make financial donations. It's a very elaborate campaign, and although Tom's doing a lot of the legwork, it has all actually been masterminded by the most senior figure of Scientology, David Miscavige. David is a lifelong member of the church and has risen to become its leader. He counts Tom as his closest friend. In fact, he was the best man at Tom and Katie's lavish wedding and was even reported to have joined them for part of their honeymoon. For a long time David has been telling Tom and Katie to concentrate their efforts on recruiting the world's biggest A-listers, with the couple gently encouraging their close friends David and Victoria Beckham and Will Smith to find out more. But they have had limited success. While Will has been saying positive things about Scientology recently, Victoria remains very sceptical. That's why David decided to turn his attention to recruiting troubled young stars, making Tom and Katie the figureheads of his plan, while other leading Scientology celebrities such as Kirstie and John Travolta will also have roles to play. But the grand campaign, and Tom and Katie's involvement in it, doesn't end at just recruiting Hollywood's hot list. The Church of Scientology is also planning dramatic big-budget television advertisements, and has already sent out casting notices to some of Hollywood's leading agents looking for stars to appear in them. Although the scripts are currently so top secret that only the church's elite inner circle has seen them, Tom and Katie could play leading roles, along with John, Kirstie and fellow Scientology devotee, American television actress Leah Remini. Tom has also suggested the church make a glossy documentary that shows 'the truth about Scientology', which could then be entered into leading film festivals. But a spokesperson for the Sundance Film Festival, one of the world's biggest and most prestigious, doubts it would make it into the event. 'Our selection policy is extremely tight and I very much doubt we would admit a piece of blatant religious propaganda,' the spokesperson says. And it seems it wouldn't just be the documentary that would be criticised. 'Everyone I talk to in Hollywood sees this the same way - if Tom and Katie start making ads for Scientology or some hack documentary, then their careers are over,' says a leading film producer, who asked not to be named for fear of being targeted by Scientology extremists. 'Those wacky internet videos were bad enough - this would be the final straw.'
