Money Can Buy Anything On Planet Posner

**** IT WAS BETTER FOR MIKE BLOOMBERG TO SPEND HIS OWN MONEY ON ELECTION **** Mike Bloomberg There are only a few things money cannot buy and, with the exception of good health, (but money can help stave off death for a while with expensive health care) if one cannot buy it who would want it anyway? There will be people screaming as they read this that money cannot buy love, happiness, and other sentimental stuff, but they are wrong. We all have a price—it is just determining that price that separates greedy people from altruistic people. I am an admitted greedy person. Anyone who says that money cannot buy almost anything has no money. Because they have no money, they don’t know that you can buy anything for the right price because they have never had the opportunity to try it. People with money know they can buy anything—because they have done it. Since the world is populated with more people who don’t have money than those who do, the myth is perpetuated that money can’t buy everything. Mayor Michael Bloomberg was elected for a third term as Mayor of New York last week and he spent $100 million to achieve that goal. That worked out to $157.27 per vote. His rival, William Thompson, spent $13.12/vote. Bloomberg is a billionaire and he spent his own money. It is his money to spend and he can spend it anyway he wants to. He also donates millions to charitable and civic organizations, so no one can accuse him of “wasting” all of his money on a political campaign. He has plenty to spend on whatever he wants to spend it on. He earned the money; he can choose how to spend the money. The only people who complain that it is not fair for a candidate to try to “buy” an election are people without money. I don’t understand why they would rather choose a candidate who raised money from special interest groups-- who they then would have to pander to--instead of choosing someone who put up their own personal cash. In a Tribune newspaper story in reference to a candidate using their own money, political consultant Darry Sragow said, "You don't have to attend one endless fundraiser after another, shifting from one foot to the other, eating hors d'oeuvres you don't really need, having conversations you don't really want to have, all so people will give you money to pay for advertising." This statement underscores the contempt and resentment that poorly self-funded candidates have against the very people who are giving them money! The phrase, “put your money where your mouth is,” is exactly what Bloomberg did. He wanted to be Mayor of New York for another term and he bought it with his own money. He is my idol. It might have been a lot of cash to spend to be the person who gets to turn the switch that lights the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center but with all his money, maybe it will be a Menorah instead this year. Sexy Paris Hilton Fuming Over Billboard

Paris Hilton Fun loving socialite Paris Hilton is threatening legal action against a New Zealand company for plastering her face across a billboard with the word "vacant" stamped across it. Paris was left pissed off when she discovered the heads at Media5 had used her image to advertise billboard space in Wellington. Hilton's manager, Jamie Freed, claims the company doesn't have permission to use the picture and insists the star plans to settle the matter in a court of law. A spokesperson for Media5, Adam McGregor, says, "(The poster is just) a bit of fun. Paris has a proven ability to laugh at herself. Justin Timberlake Ordered To L.a. Court

According to TMZ, Justin Timberlake has been ordered to court and needs to tell it all to the judge himself, in order to make a temporary restraining order against a harassing fan permanent. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Cunningham just told Justin's lawyer, Marty Singer that the star must make his case against Karen McNeil by personally testifying. Singer, was furious, saying McNeil has violated the TRO 10 times already. And besides, Singer says, Justin is filming a movie and has a contract requiring him to be there. The judge said it's unfair to make a common working man appear in court but not a high-profile type who has a high-paying gig. Opening statements were expected today in the case involving James Woods and the death of his younger brother Michael. James is suing a Rhode Island hospital for the 2006 death. The younger brother of the famed actor passed away at Kent Hospital in Warwick after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest at the young age of 49. Comic Katt Williams Arrested In Atlanta

Katt Williams Rap star and comic Katt Williams is jailed in Atlanta, after police said they arrested the entertainer for allegedly breaking into a home. Williams is charged with burglary and criminal trespassing, according to Coweta County Sheriff's Office Major James Yarbrough. A deputy at the Coweta County Jail confirmed Williams was being held there and that a magistrate was expected to set bond at an arraignment this afternoon. Yarbrough said the Sunday night incident happened at a home in Newnan, about 38 miles southwest of Atlanta. Yarbrough said a homeowner called police around 9 p.m. to report the comedian "gained entry by breaking into the home, and items were taken from the residence." Yarbrough said jewelry was taken, but did not have further details. Meanwhile TMZ is reporting that Lawyer William Briggs told them that Katt was in Georgia shooting a movie, staying at the property of a friend and the movie's producer, Barry Hankerson. Briggs says the reason his client was busted is because he was involved in a dispute with one of Barry's employees who lives in the guesthouse. The vengeful employee called the cops and reported a faux burglary, Briggs says. Briggs adds Katt had "full permission" to be on the property and has been staying there for the last 3 weeks. Jennifer Lopez Sues Ex Hubby Once Again

After only a short two years after winning a $545,000 judgment against her ex-hubby, Jennifer Lopez is again suing her first husband once again, accusing him of planning to use video of their sex life in a tell-all movie. In the lawsuit, Lopez says former husband Ojani Noa is shopping around the film to industry players, a movie with footage of Noa and Lopez in sexual situations, including their time in a hotel room during their 1997 honeymoon. Lopez is seeking $10 million in damages and a court order preventing dissemination of any video showing her and Noa in intimate situations. The lawsuit against Noa, which was filed on Friday, marks the second time Lopez has sued her first husband, a chef and model to whom she was married for less than 11 months. In 2006, Lopez sued Noa over his plans to publish a tell-all book about their life. It resulted in a California judge ordering Noa to pay Lopez $545,000 for breach of contract. Lopez said Noa had signed an agreement not to publish details of their relationship. Her latest lawsuit accuses Noa of breach of contract and also names filmmaker Ed Meyer as a defendant. Central Park is beautiful in the Fall, we have the best live theater talent anywhere in the world and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS knows how to throw a party! And I ain't just saying that last part to keep getting myself invited either... Just imagine BCEFA knows everyone on the Great White Way, and those folks can party! So when you throw in talent like Tony winners Brent Kowalik and Greg Jbara, Maya Day, Kathy Brier, Kevin Spirtas, Kate Shindle, Cady Huffman, Olivia D'Abo, Bobbie Eakes, Ann Harada and Kassie DePaiva; Central Park views and top-shelf liquor - well, I am screaming bravo while getting dressed just so my voice is warmed up! Hell, I would even help polish the silver for that invite! And a good thing too, cuz this years "Salon" party got down to some great tunes during the "I Used to Dance Around the Living Room" fete held in a private Central Park South apartment. I cannot imagine a better way to spend an evening. And this all for raising funds for a great organization and cause! All I have to say to these folks is 'anchor!'!
