You forgot about Duane Eddy . He influenced a whole generation and put the guitar where it is today . Before Duane , the guitar was just a backing instrument for accompaniment . Too many guitarists were content to sound and play like Chet Atkins.

Today's rock guitarists are the embodiment of Eddy's forthright style and "hard" guitar sound .
